What
is MicroSlew?
MicroSlew consists of a
battery operated hand
control with two electric motors that attach to the axes of a telescope
mount—usually an alt-azimuth mount—for micro slewing in each axis. With the
hand control, the motor is first selected then slewing can be accomplished
in either direction on that axis. See the hand
unit page for more information on speed controls.
The term alt-azimuth (also
called alt-az or altitude-azimuth) represents up and down movement
(altitude) and left and right "lazy Susan" style movement
(azimuth). The alt-az mechanics can be compared to a gun turret. An
alt-azimuth mount is not an equatorial mount and will not track the stars
without sophisticated software. Dobsonian telescopes are examples of
scopes with alt-azimuth mounts.
